Console Table Build Part 10

This week I complete the build of the table structure by installing the drawer guides and beveling and attaching the top. I use the drawer side to position the guides, which makes that process fairly easy (assuming the drawer supports are installed correctly).

Beveling the top is a bit of a challenge, especially if the top is large. When I was teaching, I wouldn’t let most students make the cuts. You have to be really comfortable on the saw to do it safely and for many students this was only their second class. Most had no issue with me making the cut.

Attaching the top with Figure 8’s is straightforward and simple. For a really special piece I would use buttons, a much more elegant solution. But that’s too much trouble for this piece and would take quite a bit longer to make and install.
