About

CarlTo make a long story very short, I was born with an engineer’s brain, but with a little artist thrown in.  After several career turns, including race car mechanic, mechanical engineer, middle school math teacher, and custom furniture maker, I finally landed as a woodworking instructor at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California (near Los Angeles). In May 2021, I retired. I was there part-time from 2000 to 2003 and full-time from 2004.

In my furniture-maker phase, I created commission furniture pieces out of a shop in nearby Torrance.  To quote from some of my business literature:

“I design and build custom and limited production furniture.  The simplicity and functionality of Shaker and Asian design, coupled with the gentle curves found in nature, guide my design philosophy.  My attention to detail and craftsmanship guide the construction of each piece and a hand-rubbed oil finish provides beauty, protection, and a surface that invites touch.”

This website is here to show you my work, and, if you’re interested, keep you informed about what’s going on in my shop.
