Knee Surgery Update
Thanks to all who wished me well on my previous post. My partial knee replacement surgery went as planned on December 18. As is typical with these types of surgeries now, they had me up and walking about eight hours after surgery. That’s relatively easy, since at that point the nerve block is still working to a large extent. The real test comes the next day…
All good! I was feeling great the next day and was able to walk about 200 feet the morning after surgery. I was discharged after lunch and have been home since then. I’m progressing well ahead of schedule and have had very little pain since the surgery. I’ve progressed from waking with a walker, to using a cane for balance, to only using the cane only for backup. Woohoo!
I’m hoping to get back in the shop in about a month. I’ll let you know if anything changes. Thanks much for your continued support!
My new hardware:
For those who are curious, the surgery was at USC Arcadia Hospital with Dr. Andrew Yun. He also did my hip replacement in 2018.
Glad to hear that your surgery went well! Enjoy the New Year!
Thanks Cindy! Happy New Year to you too!
So glad to hear that you are on the mend.
I’m so glad it’s going well ❤️ Make absolutely certain that you get full bend back in the knee, I understand they don’t use the cpm machines anymore so you’ll need a good PT to make sure you get that full range back again. Keep at it long after insurance stops sending you! I had reconstructive ACL my first year in college with kerlan-jobe. So thankful for their rehab program, it was very aggressive but designed for professional athletes. I have no complaints with my knee.
Thanks Joy! My range of motion is 128 degrees as of yesterday, very much ahead of typical schedule. My knee is still swollen so I won’t get full ROM until the swelling goes down a bit. It’s only been about two weeks since the surgery so I’m very optimistic I’ll get very near full function in a few months. I’m getting home PT now and will switch to outpatient PT in a couple of weeks.
That’s great 👍 Keep up the good work!
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a happy new year!
Great news Carl. Yours looks so much simpler than mine but I hope it’s just what you need. Have a Happy New Year!
That’s the difference between a total replacement and a partial. I was hoping for the partial but didn’t know for sure I’d get it until the doc opened up my knee. Lucky me!
That’s good news indeed, Carl! Best wishes for your continued recovery, looking forward to seeing you back in your shop soon!
Congratulations on what sounds like a so far successful procedure. Be sure to do the exercises / PT. So glad you were able to be back home for Christmas.
Well, as I’ve offered in the past, if you need a hand with something hit me up. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year.
Glad you’re doing well. Will be waiting to checkout your next project. take care of that knee. don’t over do it.
Awesome news Carl! So glad the surgery went so well! Have a safe and sane New Year. Talk soon, Bob
