Console Table Build Part 1
I’ve wanted to create a series of videos on making a piece of furniture, but I’ve been too busy lately with travel and home projects to create something. While perusing my teaching videos I realized I had a complete set of videos for my Fall 2020 WMT 103 class in which I made a simple table with a drawer. The series was created during my last year at Cerritos College (I retired in May 2021). During that time, students were allowed to work in the shop, but the teachers had to present instruction online.
We would typically make a coffee table with a stretcher and shelf system at the bottom, but due to the constraints placed on us we had to simplify things a bit. My choice was to build a table for my wife that would be placed next to the front door of our home, on which she could place a few small art objects. Students could make this table or a design of their own with similar features.
You can download my SketchUp file and bill of materials (BoM) below. The BoM was created using the SketchUp CutList extension, which I find very helpful. You can see how I do that in this video.
In this first video, I demonstrate how I harvest the parts. Watch it here.
