Krenov Trestle Horse Part 5
Last in the series on building the trestle horse. I was out of town last week, backpacking in central Arizona with a couple of friends. One is doing the Arizona Trail in sections, and two of us joined him to hike 71 miles from Pine to Sunflower. It was a great trip, although it rained almost all day on Wednesday, making for a couple of cold, wet days.
As with my last post, there’s not much to add regarding the build of the trestle horses. I will say that I did take the extra step of rounding the through-tenons, which is purely an aesthetic decision; it adds nothing to the function of the horses. It does, however, look great! It just takes some time to make it happen.
Also note that I don’t apply finish to these. I rarely finish jigs and fixtures for my shop and these are no exception. It certainly won’t hurt (and maybe I’m just lazy), but I don’t think it would help enough to justify the time involved.
If you make these, I’m sure you will appreciate their simplicity and functionality. They are a great addition to any shop.
